Rank Symposium on n-3 fatty acids, cognition and brain health
Nutrition
The Rank Prize Nutrition Committee are delighted to welcome applications from UK-based PhD students and Early Career Researchers (up to 7 years post-PhD or professional equivalency) to speak at the upcoming Rank Symposium on n-3 Fatty Acids, Cognition and Mental Health. This will be held at the Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere, Cumbria from 17-20 April 2023.
Rank Symposia have been running for over thirty years and follow a unique format designed to support and inspire early-stage scientists. Over three days, successful applicants will have the opportunity to present their work to a small invited audience of leading scientists and emerging researchers working in fields related to n-3 fatty acids and brain health. Alongside the formal presentations, there will be plenty of opportunities for informal interactions between delegates, both inside and outdoors in the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District. All delegates stay at the hotel and all meals are provided.
Rank Prize will cover full accommodation, food and beverage charges for early-career speakers and will reimburse the full cost of standard-class travel on public transport within the UK.
This meeting, organised by Professor Anne Marie Minihane and Dr. Philippa Jackson, seeks to consider the knowledge base in the field, controversies and research gaps, and how recent technological and methodological innovations can be effectively employed in n-3 fatty acids and brain health research and its translation and implementation.
Presentations by ECRs are to be 20 minutes in length. Proposals on the following related topics are especially welcome:
- cardiometabolic health
- gut-brain axis
- n-3 fatty acids intake/eating behaviour/sustainability
- biomarkers of brain health
- brain imaging
- other relevant methodologies and models to phenotype brain function
- neuroinflammation
- mitochondrial function
The Rank Prize symposia provide an unique micro-meeting format where 20 early-career researchers are able to closely interact with ten leading scientists in their field. As every early and established researcher gets the chance to present their latest research, this meeting format provides an invaluable opportunity to gain feedback and catalyse new ideas. Opportunities to exchange ideas are greatly facilitated by all meeting attendees sharing time together over meals, coffee breaks and hiking in the beautiful local scenery around Grasmere. This unique meeting format is designed to create new disciplinary interactions, collaborations and communities, whilst providing early career researchers with the opportunity to obtain invaluable career advice from leaders in their scientific field.
