2026 Rank Prizes awarded

The 2026 Rank Prizes were formally awarded at a ceremony in central London on Monday 22nd June. Our Guest of Honour, Professor Michele Dougherty, presented the Rank Prize in Nutrition to joint winners Professors David E. Salt (University of Nottingham) and Martin Broadley (Rothamsted Research) and the Rank Prize in Optoelectronics to Professor Susumu Noda (Kyoto University).

Guests from the worlds of science and technology came together to mark the achievements of our winners, who have each made huge advances in areas of critical importance to human flourishing.

The research led by Professors Salt and Broadley is transforming dietary interventions in low and middle-income countries to enhance nutrition and health outcomes; Professor Noda’s semiconductor laser, the PCSEL, is set to make major contributions to high-precision manufacturing, autonomous vehicle technology and space applications. By making these awards, Rank Prize is celebrating and encouraging breakthrough research with demonstrable benefit to humanity.
