Symposia held at Storrs Hall, Windermere

The nearest station is Windermere. From London, the intercity service stops at Oxenholme where travellers must change trains for Windermere.

To take the Windermere train, cross from Platform 2 to Platform 3 where, if services are running to schedule, the train should be waiting. There is also a direct service from Manchester Airport to Windermere.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.virgintrains.co.uk or www.nationalrail.co.uk. The fee will be charged to your credit card and tickets can be collected from ticket machines at the station. You will need to have the credit card which you used to purchase the tickets and the code issued by the provider. This service is also available to overseas customers. There is no charge for this service. Please ensure that you purchase your tickets early to take advantage of the reduced advanced fares.

Reimbursement for UK Standard Class rail fares will be made during the meeting and the auditors will require receipts with all claims.

There are taxi ranks at Windermere and Oxenholme stations from which participants may take a taxi to the hotel, the cost of which can be included in claims for travelling expenses. Please try to share taxis with other participants and obtain a receipt. The Funds will not reimburse taxi fares for any other part of your journey.

From London take the M1 and M6 or M40/M42 and M6. Leave the M6 at Junction 36 which is the South Lakes turning. At the roundabout filter onto the A590 (Kendal).  Follow the dual carriageway to the roundabout (approx. 7 miles), take the first exit signposted B5284 Hawkshead via Ferry.  Continue along the road for a few miles, through the village of Crook and past the golf club.  At the T junction turn left and immediately right onto Longtail Hill.  At the bottom of the hill, at the T junction, turn left onto the A592 (signposted Newby Bridge).  After one and a half miles you will see Storrs Hall set back from the road on the right.  The road bends sharply to the left at this point. There is ample parking at the rear of the hotel.

Reimbursement will be made for the cost of petrol, a receipt for which will be required by the auditors. The Funds do not reimburse participants for mileage claims or the cost of hire cars.
