The information that follows on this page relates to travel within the U.K. From Heathrow Airport Take the London Underground from Heathrow to Leicester Square on the Piccadilly Line. Change and take the Northern Line to Euston Station then take the British Rail service from Euston to Windermere via Oxenholme. Journey time from Heathrow to Euston will be about 50 minutes. There is also the "Heathrow Express" rail service that runs from Heathrow to Paddington. The train departs every 15 minutes with a journey time of approximately 15 minutes. http://www.heathrowexpress.co.uk From Gatwick Airport There are express trains direct from Gatwick to Victoria Station in London. These leave approximately every 15 minutes with a journey time of about 30 minutes. From Victoria Station take the London Underground Victoria Line to Euston then take the British Rail service from Euston to Windermere via Oxenholme. Journey time from Victoria to Euston Station will be approximately 15 minutes. http://www.gatwickexpress.co.uk From Manchester "Ringway" Airport There is a direct rail service to Windermere. The direct services operate from approximately 08.00 until 18.00 with a journey time of 2 hours. Other services are available to and from the airport but these may not be direct. By Rail Tickets can be purchased online at www.virgintrains.co.uk or www.nationalrail.co.uk. The fee will be charged to your credit card and tickets can be collected from ticket machines at the station. You will need to have the credit card which you used to purchase the tickets and the code issued by the provider. This service is also available to overseas customers. There is no charge for this service. Please ensure that you purchase your tickets early to take advantage of the reduced advanced fares. The nearest station is Windermere. From London Euston, the intercity service stops at Oxenholme where travellers must change trains for Windermere. To take the Windermere train, cross from Platform 2 to Platform 3 where, if services are running to schedule, the train should be waiting. Details on train times and fares can be obtained by checking the web site http://www.virgintrains.co.uk . By Car From London take the M1 and M6 or M40/M42 and M6. Leave the M6 at Junction 36 which is the South Lakes turning. At the roundabout filter onto the A590 (Kendal). Follow the dual carriageway to the roundabout (approx. 7 miles), take the first exit signposted B5284 Hawkshead via Ferry. Continue along the road for a few miles, through the village of Crook and past the golf club. At the T junction turn left and immediately right onto Longtail Hill. At the bottom of the hill, at the T junction, turn left onto the A592 (signposted Newby Bridge). After one and a half miles you will see Storrs Hall set back from the road on the right. The road bends sharply to the left at this point. There is ample parking at the rear of the hotel. Reimbursement will be made for the cost of petrol, a receipt for which will be required by the auditors. The Funds do not reimburse participants for mileage claims or the cost of hire cars.
