Announcement of 2012 Prizes:

A summary of the 2012 prizes being awarded on 6 February is as below.

NUTRITION

Prof. J.H. Cummings £80,000
For his outstanding research that established the role of the colon in human health and nutrition.

OPTOELECTRONICS

Prof. R.C. Hardie £50,000

For his outstanding contributions to the study of the physiology of insect vision.

 
Prof. A. Zisserman £50,000
For his outstanding contributions to modern computer vision.

Dr Ann Prentice OBE PhD FSB, Director and Head of Nutrition and Bone Health Research, MRC Human Nutrition Research (HNR) Cambridge

Professor Peter Gregory FRASE (Chief Executive, East Malling Research)

Optoelectronics Committee Appointments

Professor Maurice Skolnick FRS (Professor of Condensed Matter Physics and Co-Director of EPSRC National Centre for III-V Technologies)

Post-Graduate Studentships in Human Nutrition

Awards have been made to the following:

  • 2008 Award - The University of Dundee ((£10,000 per annum for 4 years)
  • 2009 Award - MRC Human Nutrition Research at Cambridge ((£10,000 per annum for 3 years)
  • 2010 Award - The Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health, University of Aberdeen (£10,000 per annum for 3 years).
  • 2011 Award - Human Nutrition Research Centre, University of Newcastle (£10,000 per annum for 4 years)
  • 2012 Award - School of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Leeds (£10,000 per annum for 3/4 years)
