THE RANK PRIZE FUNDS PRIZEGIVING 4 FEBRUARY 2008

Held at the Royal College of Physicians, Central London

 

An introduction was given by Lord Selborne, KBE, FRS, Chairman of the Trustees who thanked all the prizewinners for their magnificent work and Lord Broers, FREng, FRS for attending to present the prizes. 

 

He then handed over to John Wheeler to read the citations. 

 

 

 

 

Professor P. Puska was awarded £75,000 for his demonstration on a national scale, in Finland, of the dramatic success of the application of preventive nutritional principles to the conquest of coronary heart disease.

 

 

 

 

 

  

Professor S.D. Tanksley was awarded £75,000 for his work on the application of genome mapping and molecular markers to crop improvement.

Professor M.V Srinivasan was awarded £45,000 for his work on insect vision and its application to robotics.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finally Lord Broers concluded by expressing his enormous thanks to the prize winners and his belief that in each area they have made a real difference to society and mankind and that, in the case of the nutritional work, many lives have been saved or improved as a result – an inspiration to us all.
